The Requirements Involved In A Military Pension Division

The Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) administers military pay and pensions. When it comes to division of those pensions, they have different rules from those governing civilian pensions. Essentially, the marriage must have lasted for 10 years and one spouse must have an equal amount of service in the military. If a couple does not fall within those guidelines, the DFAS will not recognize the Qualified Court Order (QCOs), the military equivalent of a Qualified Domestic Relations Order (QDRO).

The Experience You Need In A Military Divorce Action

Please know that not just any divorce attorney has experience navigating through the unique aspects of a military divorce. Simply put, we can. At the law office of Keith B. Schulefand, Esq., we recognize the difficulties and challenges of military pension division. If a divorcing spouse qualifies for half of the pension, we will move forward with the filing of a QCO.
